Abstract

Childhood oral conditions, notably dental caries and gum disease, are serious public health concerns for children, affecting their overall health, well-being, and quality of life. Conventional approaches to oral health promotion and disease prevention may be ineffective in identifying high-risk children and offering personalised preventative therapy. Artificial intelligence (AI) is emerging as a potential technology that can aid in many aspects of paediatric oral healthcare. It can be used to diagnose dental caries and diseases early, forecast caries risk, educate people about oral health, monitor oral hygiene and nutritional patterns, and do remote dental screenings. AI-powered systems can assist identify youngsters who are more likely to acquire oral disorders, allowing for prompt and customised preventive measures. However, the use of AI presents several obstacles, including as issues about data privacy, data quality, the accuracy of AI-based systems, digital accessibility, and the necessity for rigorous clinical validation. This study examines the existing applications of artificial intelligence (AI) in juvenile oral health promotion and disease prevention, as well as its potential benefits and limitations, and the future scope of AI use in paediatric and community dentistry.
