Digital Preservation Policy
The TMP Universal Journal of Dental Research and Health is committed to ensuring the long-term accessibility and preservation of its published content. As an open-access journal, we recognize the importance of maintaining the integrity and availability of digital content for the benefit of researchers, practitioners, and the public.
Purpose
The purpose of this Digital Preservation Policy is to:
- Ensure the long-term preservation and accessibility of all published articles and supplementary materials.
- Protect the journal's digital content from loss due to system failures, obsolescence, or other risks.
- Comply with best practices in digital preservation to ensure content remains accessible across evolving technological platforms.
Archiving Systems
The journal uses multiple strategies to preserve its digital content, including:
- Third-Party Archiving: The journal partners with recognized digital preservation services, such as CLOCKSS (Controlled Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) and Portico, which provide long-term preservation of our content in a secure, decentralized network.
- Institutional Repositories: Authors are encouraged to deposit published articles in their institutional repositories to ensure broader preservation and dissemination of their work.
- Self-Archiving: Authors are permitted to archive preprints and postprints of their articles in open-access repositories, subject to journal policies on self-archiving.
Redundancy and Backup
To mitigate risks such as data loss or corruption, the journal implements the following measures:
- Regular Backups: All digital content is routinely backed up in secure storage systems. These backups are maintained in multiple geographically dispersed locations to protect against regional disasters or system failures.
- Version Control: The journal uses version control systems to ensure that all content is accurately preserved, with a clear record of any updates or changes made after publication.
Format Migration
To ensure long-term accessibility, the journal monitors the evolution of file formats and performs format migration when necessary. This involves converting older or obsolete file formats into current formats to ensure compatibility with modern software and platforms.
Open Access and Sustainability
All articles published in the TMP Universal Journal of Dental Research and Health are made freely available under an open-access license, ensuring that they can be accessed without barriers. The journal’s open-access model is supported by institutional funding and grants, ensuring the sustainability of our digital preservation efforts.
Preservation of Metadata
In addition to preserving the full text of all articles, the journal ensures the preservation of associated metadata (e.g., title, author information, abstract, keywords) in a structured format. This metadata is stored in machine-readable formats (e.g., XML, JSON) to facilitate discovery and retrieval by indexing systems and future technologies.
Policy for Discontinued Publications
In the event that the TMP Universal Journal of Dental Research and Health ceases publication, all published content will remain accessible through our archiving partners (CLOCKSS, Portico, etc.), ensuring its preservation and availability to future researchers.
Access and Retrieval
Preserved content will be accessible to readers indefinitely, without charge. The journal works with digital preservation services to ensure that content remains retrievable even in the event of technological or organizational changes.
Monitoring and Review
The journal continuously monitors its digital preservation practices and adapts its strategies as technology evolves. This policy is reviewed regularly to ensure that it remains in line with best practices and emerging trends in digital preservation.
